Laser Eye Surgery is a widely available and popular form of surgery which uses a laser to reshape the cornea of the eye, with the end result of attaining better overall vision.
If you suffer from myopia, astigmatism or hyperopia, you could be a suitable candidate for laser surgery. Depending on the overall characteristics and health of your eyes, you may have one of three types of laser eye surgery options to choose from.
First, our optometrists at Vivid Eye Care will perform a comprehensive eye exam to establish what level of correction is required, as well as an evaluation of your eye health. Your optometrist will then recommend the best option for you. Start the process by scheduling an eye exam today.
All three types of laser eye surgeries are designed to provide the same end result – the correction of a patient’s vision so they no longer require corrective eyewear such as glasses or contacts. All three options have extremely high success rates of improving astigmatism, nearsightedness and farsightedness.
In rare cases, you may not be eligible for any of the laser eye surgery options.
Assuming you are a candidate, we will provide a referral to an experienced ophthalmologist’s office that will perform the actual surgery.
Laser eye surgery is a relatively short procedure with the actual surgery itself taking only 15 minutes. Including pre-surgery preparation leading up to the procedure, the total duration of the appointment ranges between 1 and 2 hours.
All three procedures begin with administering anesthetic eye drops to the eye. An ophthalmic speculum will be used to keep the eye open during the surgery. An excimer or femtosecond laser is used to cut and reshape the cornea while you stare into a red or green light.
Once the surgery is complete, we will provide you with eye protection such as an eye patch.
The majority of postoperative care comes in the form of managing potential side effects after surgery. In many cases, patients have little to no side effects and are able to resume normal activities within 48 hours. While rare, side effects are often temporary and include:
You can rest assured that our team will work closely with you to manage any potential side effects while you recover from the surgery, and see to it that you are on the road to better vision.
